Summer Nature Journaling – June-August

Journal your way through Maywood this summer on our Self-Guided Nature Journaling Walk.

The walk opens June 1, 2026 and runs through September 6, 2026. The walk is open during regular park hours: 4am-10pm daily.

There are 14 prompts located throughout the park – one for each week this summer. You can complete them all in one visit or spread them out during the summer. We encourage you to revisit sites to see how they have changed as the season progresses.

Supplies you will need:

  • Something to record your observations on: notebook, sketchbook, pieces of paper, etc. You could also use a phone or tablet device.
  • Something to write or draw with: pencil, pens, markers, paints, etc.

There are many options for nature journaling. Some possibilities include:

  • Using a simple notebook and pen or pencil to write out your observations.
  • Drawing, sketching, or painting your observations. It’s helpful to include notes about size, shape, etc.
  • Writing a poem or essay about what you are observing.

You may want to use the same format each time you journal or mix it up.

Check out the map for helpful hints, a list of locations, and additional prompts to use on your journaling journey.

If you are unable to journey to all the sites, you can view the prompts using the button on this page or stop by the Ecology Center when it is open to view all the prompts.
