Spring is here and the birds are singing! It is a great time of year to observe resident and migrating birds, and Maywood provides a variety of habitats to attract a diverse array of species. We will practice basic birding skills and record as many species as we can find, while enjoying a lovely, melodious walk through the park. Bring binoculars and field guides if you have them. Also bring a water bottle, dress for the weather, and wear appropriate footwear that can get wet and muddy.

This summer-long volunteer opportunity allows you to become a Maywood Land Steward and care for a section of the park. Learn which areas of the park we will be focused on and how you can contribute to protecting and restoring habitats at Maywood. There will be one training and information session this year when we will go over invasive species and will conclude with a short hike.

As the park awakens, spend time at Maywood immersed in a spring yoga series consisting of mindful movement, breath awareness, physical postures, and guided meditation. A portion of each class will be held outdoors as weather permits. Please consider dressing for the weather. Participants should bring a yoga mat, 2 blocks, and a strap. Instructor Barbara Holt is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance (RYT-200) with over a decade of experience teaching yoga and meditation in a variety of settings.

Join Dr. John Reitz of Better Life Chiropractic and Wellness to learn about how your digestive system plays a key role in your health. At this workshop, you will learn about stomach acid, important enzymes, and other organs which are often overlooked, like the liver and gallbladder. Yoga is a resource that is often overlooked by kayakers, canoeists, and stand-up paddlers. This workshop will include breath awareness and yoga postures that can be beneficial for paddlers, tips for establishing a home practice, and sample yoga sequences. Please bring a yoga mat and a blanket.
